On The Right Tracks?

Do you like to explore Norfolk on foot, by bicycle or on a horse? Are you a 4X4 enthusiast? Do you drive a carriage? Or ride a motorbike?
If so, we need your help.

We want you to tell us how you currently get out and about in the Norfolk countryside and whether you are happy with the routes you use.

We want to hear about …

  • Your favourite walk
  • Your short-cut to the bus-stop
  • Where you go on your bike or where you exercise your pony

We would also be interested to hear how you might want to use paths and tracks in the future. Maybe you want to go for a walk or a ride somewhere but don’t know where to find out more?

Please help us by completing the questionnaire below.  There are two sections : 'Going back to your routes' and 'Putting down routes'.

Everyone who fills in and returns this questionnaire (before 16th July 2004) will be entered into our On The Right Tracks? FREE PRIZE DRAW and could win one of these prizes:

* Weekend for two adults (over 18) at Marriott Sprowston Manor Hotel
* £50 outdoor equipment voucher
* Set of guide-books on walks in Norfolk
* Walking the Way to Health Initiative Step-o-Meter

We will use the information you give us to:

  • Improve the condition of country routes
  • Link up routes to make them more useful
  • Make information about routes clearer and easier to get hold of

We will treat all comments with respect and will not use anyone’s names when we feed back our findings. Your views will help to shape the Norfolk Local Transport Plan for 2005.

Where people suggest improvements to existing routes, or give ideas of new routes, we will work closely with landowners and land managers to see if this is possible.

So, please take a few moments to follow the trail on our On The Right Tracks? map, answering as many questions as you can on the way.

If you would like this map on an audio tape, in Braille, in another format or different language please contact Dominic Doble on (01603) 222786. It is also available online at http://www.localaccessforum.norfolk.gov.uk/

Going back to your routes!

In this section we want to find out a bit about you and one of the routes that you currently use, as well as any route that you would like to use in the future. In the past we have asked people about roads, buses and trains. This is your chance to tell us about the other ways you travel and the routes that you use. (By ‘routes’ we mean anything from cut-throughs and short-cuts, paths, bridleways and other tracks, right up to roads.)

You may be using routes in all sorts of ways, but for this first section we would like you to choose just one way that you travel. This can be the usual way that you use a route or the one that is most important to you.

If you would like to tell us about another way that you use routes, you can either fill in a separate questionnaire or give more details in Question 6.

All the questions in this section are about what you do now and what you would like to do in the future (please tick one box in each column).

Putting down routes

In this section we want to find out if you are satisfied with the routes that are currently available in Norfolk.

As well as finding out about good routes, we want you to tell us about routes that you are unhappy with. (For example, if you can’t get a pushchair all the way round, or your horse will not cross an exposed bridge.) If we know about these problems, we might be able to do something about them.

As there are lots of different types of routes, some questions may not be relevant to you. Don’t worry - just complete the questions that you can.

To help us recognise your routes, please describe them as fully as possible in the space provided. It helps if you say which town or parish they are in, but if you don’t know it doesn’t matter.

Are you a landowner, or land manager?

This questionnaire is aimed at anyone who uses routes across property throughout Norfolk. People might use these routes by right, permission, tradition, or otherwise. Our aim is to find out where people are going, or would like to go, to help us plan countryside access. We are not intending to apply Public Rights to all routes we hear about, or to promote them all. Please use the space at the end of this questionnaire to raise any issues that you have, or you can write to us at:
